As mentioned before, I try not to use shortening, but this recipe is the reason I keep a tub in my pantry. I made these with my mommy every year in honor of her Valentine birthday. We’d roll and cut out heart cookies, then decorate them with sprinkles. Now I keep the tradition with my little ones in her honor. Sometimes I cheat by using pre-made icing, but my mom’s is really good!
Even when I follow this recipe to Holly’s instructions, I am never able to produce the gorgeous, chunky cookies she could! They really are best with Ghiradelli chocolate chips, so splurge on those!
I collected this recipe during a short stay in Alabama. It’s my one and only chocolate chip cookie recipe. I mean, if you are going to have cookies on hand in the freezer at all times, they should at least be made with wheat flour and oatmeal, right?
